The Kennesaw State University String Project is a university/community partnership that provides an opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students (as of the 2013-2014 academic year) to receive group string instrument instruction at an affordable price. The available instruments are violin, viola, cello, or string bass.
The String Project classes meet each Sunday from 1:30-3:15pm at the KSU School of Music and follow a semester-based schedule that fits within the Cobb Schools and Kennesaw State academic calendars. The program is intended for beginning students, so no prior experience is necessary! Students acquire technical skills on their instrument, ensemble playing skills, and learn to read music in a fun environment.
The String Project not only serves the community, it provides undergraduate music education students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on teaching experience under the supervision of master teacher Evelyn Champion, Director of Orchestras at Sprayberry High School, and director Charles Laux, Assistant Professor of Music Education at Kennesaw State University.
For interested students and parents, there will be an informational meeting at the KSU School of Music on Sunday, August 25 2013 at 1:30pm in room 109. At the meeting Mr. Laux and Ms. Champion will discuss the details of the String Project, demonstrate different instruments, and discuss instrument rental programs.
