Kennesaw is about to get a taste of Chicago, and it’s all thanks to Portillo’s. The iconic Chicago street food restaurant is making its debut in Georgia with a brand-new location at the corner of Cobb Place Boulevard and Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw. Since opening its doors as “The Dog House” in Villa Park, Illinois back in 1963, Portillo’s has become legendary for serving up the true essence of Chicago-style cuisine. Now, they’re bringing that iconic flavor down south.
A Menu Packed with Chicago Classics
The new Portillo’s in Kennesaw will feature the brand’s signature menu items, giving locals a true taste of the Windy City. Guests can sink their teeth into classic Italian beef sandwiches that are slow-roasted for four hours and served on freshly baked French bread. And of course, no trip to Portillo’s would be complete without one of their famous Chicago-style hot dogs, piled high with toppings and “dragged through the garden” in true Chicago fashion.
While many of Portillo’s Chicago locations offer beer, the Kennesaw restaurant will be alcohol-free, focusing solely on their renowned food and family-friendly atmosphere.
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, you won’t want to miss their decadent homemade chocolate cake, or even better, the famous chocolate cake shake. It’s all the indulgence of cake, but drinkable and every bit as irresistible as it sounds.
A Peek Inside the New Space
This 6,250-square-foot restaurant, set to be located at 790 Cobb Place Boulevard, will replace the former On the Border building and feature Portillo’s “Restaurant of the Future” design. With seating for over 125 guests indoors, plus an outdoor patio that accommodates around 40 more, the space is built for both comfort and efficiency. The double drive-thru lanes, a Portillo’s staple similar to the newer Chick-fil-A drive-thrus, make sure that no one will be waiting too long for their Chicago favorites.
In addition to a grab-and-go retail area, there are Portillo’s Pick Up shelves and a self-serve beverage station, all part of a compact design that aims to keep things moving while maintaining that classic Portillo’s feel.
