Local businesses, families and community groups are encouraged to contribute their time and talents to help create unique, colorful and playful multi-pumpkin scenes to display near the Depot and Southern Museum for public viewing, through Friday, October 29.
Suggestions include (but are not limited to) groups of celebrity or historical figures, animals, funny faces, Halloween characters and traditional jack-o-lanterns. Pumpkins may be carved or decorated. Scenes will be judged and prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Theme, Most Humorous, Best Craftsmanship, Best Use of Materials, Best Pumpkin Characters, Most Original, Most Creative Concept, Most Historic, Best Carved and Grand Champion.
The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department will provide each decorating team with one sign marker. Teams must provide all components of the scene, including pumpkins, tables, props and decorations. Keep in mind that pumpkins may be exposed to various weather conditions, as well as birds, squirrels and other visitors. The use of paper or cardboard is NOT recommended to withstand wind and moisture.
While pumpkins are traditionally lighted with candles, due to public safety and the duration of the event, decorating teams are encouraged to use battery operated light sources (on timers) to achieve the desired effect. The City of Kennesaw is not responsible for any damaged or stolen items.
The entry fee is $10 per decorating team (non-refundable). Click here to complete an entry form. Space is limited and entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limit one entry per household/organization. Decorating teams can begin setting up scenes on Monday, October 18. Installation must be complete by Friday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Contest winners will be announced on Friday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. Scenes will need to be removed between Saturday, October 30 and Monday, November 1.
